I'd agree with this. On the whole there has been little intrusion. It's generally been a quiet week although, as Meadow notes, there have been occasions when Egger has been noisy.

Monday morning between 7 and 8am the sound of log handling accompanied by the vortex noise could be heard clearly above the A69 traffic noise.

Generally, there have been less log handling noises from Egger over the last week. Some exceptions, when noise could be heard clearly inside the house were Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon.

If only it were just "a little" noise. The same loud noises have gone on for over 2 years, most days, for hours at a a time, and at night (now banned by the Council). And it is a noise source which Egger explicitly promised in writing (in 2006) to do whatever it took to silence. It's good that Egger do things voluntarily for the community (you'll find those recorded here too), but that does not absolve them from delivering on their formal commitments not to create noise nuisance.

'Throwing logs about'? Is this honestly how you expect a company the size of EGGER to operate? Im sure they are NOT out to intentionally 'throw logs about' to upset the local residents?
Why not give them a break?
They are employing hundreds of LOCAL people and no doubt contributing more than any other business to the local economy! Also, i read in the Hexham Courant that they had contributed materials for the extension of YOUR local school - this was done seemingly during the worst recession the country has seen, and at a time when i also read in the Hexham courant that they were having to make people redundant?! Yet they still gave out material and assisstance FREE of charge to the local area?
I think instead of just always having a go about noise levels and appareance, EGGER should get a break. Its been here longer than most people and employs generations of families.
The slighest noise and you guys seem to be on their backs without a moments hesitation.
THINK about all the people that would be affected should EGGER just decide they are sick of all the complaints and grief and they moved from Hexham. Suddenly a little noise doesnt seen so bad....

Reflecting on Egger's statement to the Courant, they offer an accurate statement of the process of regulation and some actions they have taken. It is notable that they do not assert that they are complying with the noise limits set - which is the point at issue. Surely, if they were they would say so?

Unfortunately, Carol has missed the point entirely. Nobody is questioning that the plant has some value to the local economy, nor that it provides employment for some local people. The real issue here is that Egger have not complied with the Permit to Operate issued by the local authority, have not yet complied fully with planning conditions and have continued to create a nuisance for local residents in spite of 3 years of constant complaints.

Egger have made improvements to some of their processes and have some of the most up to date equipment in the industry. But a company who stubbornly refuse to communicate directly with local people about problems which affect their lives is not a good neighbour.

In spite of there being less airborne pollution (the WESP was out of operation) the noise levels from log loading activity during parts of the day was quite noticeable and intrusive.

Pleased to see more evidence of Egger supporting the community. Anne, do you know when the new open noticeboard might be in place?

I am glad they donated. They were of great assistance when the first extension to the school was obtained by Albert Simpson, assisted by most of Oakwood.
You will be pleased to know that Mr Veile Matthias has offered to help us with an open notice board . We can then put up information which is current. Two families moving to the parish have told me that they couldn,t find anything useful on the notie board as it was out of date and locked.
